echinacea

I made a trip to my favorite local garden center to check out their selection of what I would call the “speciality” echinacea varieties, in an attempt to decide which one I might be willing to splurge on.  Not the common pink or white, but a whole range of new colors are available.  So, to that purpose, here they are for your reference and mine, with photos and plant information.

This one didn’t have any informational labeling, but is called Echinacea ‘Double Scoop Orangeberry’, in case you can’t turn your head enough to read the marker in the pot.

The label was cut off in this photo.  This plant is Echinacea purpurea ‘Balsomselo’ ppaf.

I have a large area to fill with flowers and it will take time and money to get the look of a field of multi-colored echinacea in this area.  I love all these unique varieties, but they are also quite pricey.  So if I could only get one, I would purchase, Echinacea ‘Green Jewel’ because it is such a unique color.  Which one would you pick?

    1. I found a pink double delight at Lowes! The soil was completely dry and the plant was wilted. They still charged me full price, the buggers. I brought it home, watered it thoroughly and this morning it’s looking much better.

      1. I’ll have to make a trip to my Lowes and see what varieties they have. Lowe’s is the best place to get marked down plants, you just have to be patient and they eventually all end up back on the clearance rack. Thanks for the heads up.

    1. The fluffy ones are growing on me. Some of them get so fluffy and you can’t see the single petals around the outside and I don’t like that. I like them best when each is distinct.
